Among lab grown diamonds with certificates available in the market, 95% are certified by IGI. Due to minimal price differences, most customers prefer diamonds of D color and VVS quality or above.

IGI and GIA are both among the world’s most authoritative diamond grading institutions, although their areas of focus differ. IGI: IGI holds a leading position in the laboratory-grown diamond market and provides physical grading reports. Its highest cut grade is Ideal, while the highest grades for polish and symmetry are Excellent, commonly shown as “Ideal / Excellent / Excellent” or “Ideal Ex Ex”. Note: Non-round diamonds are generally not assigned an overall cut grade. GIA: GIA has traditionally focused more heavily on natural diamonds. From October 2025, it introduced an updated assessment system for laboratory-grown diamonds. For colourless to near-colourless laboratory-grown diamonds, GIA evaluates overall quality based on factors including colour, clarity, cut, polish and symmetry. Qualifying diamonds are classified as either “Premium” or “Standard”, rather than being assigned the same colour and clarity grades used for natural diamonds.

Price variations are primarily due to different pricing strategies among manufacturers. For VVS grade or higher, selecting the lower-priced option is typically fine, as high-grade lab-grown diamonds are very similar in quality. Additionally, rare diamonds (such as unique sizes, fancy colors, or special shapes) can significantly affect pricing.
